Varun Chakravarthy of India is now at the top ICC men’s T20I bowler ranking after the second match in Asia Cup. The 34-year-old wrists pinner demonstrated his guile by claiming 1 for 4 against the UAE and 1 for 24 versus Pakistan to become only the third Indian bowler to reach No. 1 behind Jasprit Bumrah and Ravi Bishnoi.
Chakravarthy pipped New Zealand pacer Jacob Duffy, who had been leading the chart since March. Among the bowlers, Sri Lanka’s Nuwan Thushara (6th), who took a wicket in each of his first two Asia Cup matches, has moved up six places. Pakistan’s Sufiyan Muqeem jumped four spots to 11th, India’s Axar Patel also progressed to 12th, while Abrar Ahmed broke into the top twenty and Kuldeep Yadav advanced to 23rd. Afghanistan’s Noor Ahmad finished 25th.
In batting, India’s Abhishek Sharma continued to be on top of the T20I rankings with his scores of 30 in 16 balls versus UAE and 31 off 13 against Pakistan. England openers Phil Salt and Jos Buttler were also among the gainers, rising to second and third positions, respectively. Salt’s unbeaten 141 runs off 60 deliveries surpassed a landmark that England could lay claim to with pride, setting the record for their highest T20I total scored and fastest century in the same match, Buttler’s 83 off only 30 balls earned him a place in ICC T20I Batting Rankings top three.
The rankings updates are a reflection of great individual performances at the Asia Cup and in T20Is over the recent past, showing off the best players in world T20 cricket today.
