Lakshya Sen:Rising Star of Indian Badminton Making Global Headlines

Lakshya Sen grabbed attention by reaching the final of Australian Open 2025. He displayed great resolve in coming from a game down to outclass Chou Tien-Chen in the semis (17–21, 24–22, 21–16).

This is a big positive for him — the fact that he can obviously still perform under extreme pressure and go deep in major events.

Hong Kong Open Performance

Sen displayed fantastic net control and court coverage at the Hong Kong Open Super 500.

He managed to overcome Ayush Shetty in a hard-fought three-game quarter-final on the back of very clever front-court play.

In the semifinal, he barely got by Chou Tien-Chen 23–21, 22–20 — coming from behind to save match points in the second game.

Injury Struggles Persist

Sen has battled physical niggles in 2025: shoulder pain, problems with his ankle and a particularly pronounced lower back spasm. His Singapore Open match was halfway through the first set when he retired, citing lower back pain and spasm.

After crashing out early in the Japan Open he conceded that he’s not quite firing on all cylinders and is targeting a return to “peak fitness” ahead of some big events down the line.

Disappointing World Championships

Here at the World Championships in Paris, Sen’s campaign was terminated earlier: China’s Shi Yuqi ensured Sen lost his first-round match (17–21 19–21).

It was one of his bigger disappointments of the year, because he had such high hopes.

All-England Open Exit

Lakshya was also defeated in the All England Open 2025 quarterfinals by Shi Feng Li, a straight sets win for the latter `21–10, 21–16.But he had created an upset in the same tournament by beating defending champion Jonatan Christie previously.

What it Means for Lakshya Sen

Poise under pressure: His showing in the run-up to the Australian Open and his runner-up finish at Hong Kong Open reveal that he still has mental toughness and tactical acumen to compete against top players_

Fitness as roadblock: Repeated physical setbacks, especially the back, continue to be a concern. Regaining consistency might be a matter of getting fully healthy.

Mixed season: There are moments where it looks like Pettersson is taking on the next stage of his career, though early playoff exists remain a reminder there’s more work to do turning that potential into high-level consistency.

Big focus ahead: With greater stakes up for grabs, Lakshya can be expected to prioritize recovery, physical training and smart scheduling in coming months.
